Follow the footsteps of this year's Giro d'Italia: the transalp to Venice. From our "Base Camp" in Bad Wörishofen, Bavaria we are setting out to South-Tyrol, Italy, crossing the Hahntennjoch and the Timmelsjoch (Passo Rombo). Reaching the "Vintschgau" (Adige Valley) we are heading East past Bozen-Bolzano to discover the beauty of the Dolomites. Finally we will ride further South to reach the Adriatic Coast near Venice.

In some of our stages in the Alps it is very hard to get a sufficient number of single rooms for just one night. If possible, we would therefore ask you to book a double room. Respectively, we would be asking for your understanding in the exceptional case of having to pair (certainly sorted by gender). For each night you cannot spend in a single room we would reimburse you € 40,00.

  • medium difficult Transalp (North to South traverse of the Alpine range); good shape and experience on the road bike are prerequisites. Also important: no problems with high altitude (1 pass is above 2.500 m / 8.200 ft.)

What we offer you:

 

An experienced guide will always be with you on the bike. Further a support car accompanies the group at all time. It will not only carry the luggage. Sometimes it will be ahead of the group, sometimes behind. It will provide drinks and snacks and will service your bike in case of a puncture or technical problem. About two thirds up the pass we will provide refreshments, that will give you the push for the last climb. When reaching the pass you may get your warmer gear for the downhill. Our overnights will be in 2 or 3 star hotels including dinner.

Our stage rides start around 9 am and are set up in a way that we may an extensive lunch break and reach the hotel latest at 6 pm. In the plains we ride together as a group. When climbing the pass everyone can ride at his own pace. Meeting point will at the pass.

Tour Itinerary
(681 km / 420 miles, 11.500 m / 37.700 ft climb):

Day 1: Arrival at Bad Wörishofen until 6.30 pm; common dinner; presentation round; tour explanation

 

 

Day 2: Bad Wörishofen - Imst (140 km / 86 miles, climb 2.014 m / 6.600 ft)

"Rolling start" with some minor hills along the River Lech and Lake Forggen. Catch a view of world famous Neuschwanstein Castle. After Füssen, we cross the border to Austria and keep rolling on small side roads to Reutte. We further enter the Lech Valley until we reach the tiny village Elmen. Here the climb to our first pass, the Hahntennjoch starts. Downhill to Imst.

 

 

Day 3: Imst - Algund / Meran   (125 km / 78 miles, climb 2.352 m / 7.700 ft)

We start rolling at Imst almost at level just above the river Inn in direction to the Oetztal. The climb starts right here but will be very soft until we reach the skiing station Soelden. After some rest we are ready for the real climb that will lead us past Obergurgl all the way to the Timmelsjoch or Passo Rombo. This is the highest elevation of the famous "Oetzthal Marathon". From here we have a 50 km or 30 mile downhill to Algund in Meran, our next stage.

 

Day 4: Algund / Meran - Corvara (95 km / 60 miles, 2300 hm / 7.500 ft.)

From Algund we take the Vinschgau Cycling Track alongside River Etsch / Adige to Bozen / Bolzano, then head North-East in the Eisack Valley. At Waidbruck we make a right turn into the Grödnertal / Gardena Valley. We are now at the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains. We cross the Grödnerjoch / Gardenia Pass and then down to Corvara. There will be a final short climb to our hotel.

Day 5: Great Dolomite Loop from an to Corvara (98 km / 60 miles, 3000 hm / 10.000 ft.)

Today we explore the beauty of the Dolomite mountains. We cross both Gardena and Sella Joch to get to Canazei. From there we climb to Passo Fedaia, famous from many Giro d'Italia stages. However, we climb the easier side and will have plenty of time to take the view to Mount Marmolada. After a speedy descent Passo Giau waits for us with more magnificent viewls. Crossing Falzarego and Valparola we get back to Corava.

Optionally, you may use that day as a rest day in Corvara or ride 52 km / 30 miles to do world famous "Sella Ronda", climbing Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena Passes.

Day 6 Tag: Corvara - Ponte nelle Alpi (116 km / 75 miles, 1.700 hm / 5.600 ft.)

From Corvara we climb the old military road to Falzarego Pass and then enjoy a long descent to Cortin d'Ampezzo, the skiing resort for the rich and famous. From there we are heading South towards the Northern Italian lowlands to Ponte nelle Alpi.

 

Day 7: Ponte nelle Alpi - Lido di Jesolo (Venedig) (107 km / 66 miles, 400 hm / 1.300 ft)

We can now almost smell the Adriatic! We follow its fragrance across some rolling hills to Lido di Jesolo. In the afternoon we take a boat to visit Venice.

 

Day 8: Bus Transfer back to Bad Wörishofen

At around 9:30 am we start our trip back from the hotel in Jesolo to our starting point in Bad Wörishofen. Our tour ends there. Optionally you may book some extra night(s) there to enjoy summer in Bavaria.
